The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Prof. Nentawe Goshwe Yilwatda, has been honoured with the Golden Responsible Citizen of Nigeria Award by Working People United (WoPU), a support group for the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
WoPU, a coalition of organised labour unions, professionals, artisans, traders and stakeholders across key sectors of the Nigerian economy, said the award was in recognition of Yilwatda‘s contributions to democratic governance, public service, technological innovation, humanitarian leadership and the strengthening of democratic institutions.
Presenting the award in Abuja, the National Coordinator-General of WoPU, Comrade Prince Williams Enredonana Akporeha, described the recognition as one of the organisation’s highest honours, reserved for Nigerians whose integrity, patriotism, vision and commitment to nation-building exemplify responsible citizenship.
Akporeha said Yilwatda’s distinguished career as an academic, engineer, public administrator, former Resident Electoral Commissioner, former Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, and now APC National Chairman, reflects a consistent commitment to institutional reforms, innovation and national development.
He commended the APC chairman for promoting unity, discipline and institutional stability within the ruling party, noting that his leadership has strengthened internal cohesion and democratic structures within the APC.
According to him, Yilwatda has also demonstrated strong support for technology-driven governance, humanitarian interventions and reforms aimed at improving public service delivery across the country.
“The award is not only a recognition of outstanding service but also an encouragement to leaders across Nigeria to embrace integrity, accountability, innovation, patriotism and people-centred leadership in the discharge of their responsibilities,” Akporeha said.
In his acceptance speech, Yilwatda expressed gratitude to Working People United for the honour, describing the award as an encouragement to remain steadfast in serving the nation with dedication, integrity and excellence.
He reaffirmed his commitment to strengthening the APC, deepening democratic governance, promoting national unity, supporting inclusive development and contributing to Nigeria’s continued progress.
WoPU stated that it would continue to identify and honour Nigerians whose leadership, achievements and service contribute to democratic development, national unity and the advancement of the country’s collective aspirations.
