The Cross River State factional governorship candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Barr. Udayi Julius has claimed that he is the authentic candidate of the party in the state.
Addressing a press conference at the Earnest Etim Bassey Press Centre in Calabar on Friday, Julius maintained that the Tanimu Turaki-led national leadership of the party is recognised by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
It would be recalled that the PDP in the state had earlier presented Mr Author Javus Archibong as its governorship candidate, but the new development shows the fracture in the State party.
According to Julius, “Nobody should come and deceive the people that he is the governorship candidate of the party because I am the authentic candidate for PDP in the state.
He claimed that he is not aware of any other person because, according to him, every contest concerning the position in the state party is currently in court, and until the court takes a final decision, I remain the candidate.”
Julius debunked the insinuation that his group is being sponsored, maintaining that his candidacy is because”my party saw the potential in me and decided to make me its governorship candidate.”
