Fayose Blames Makinde For PDP Crisis

Former Ekiti State Governor and Board Chairman of the Rural Electrification Agency (REA) Ayodele Fayose, has accused Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, of contributing to the crisis within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), alleging that the Oyo governor eventually took control of the party’s structure in Ekiti State.

Fayose made the allegations while appearing on TVC’s Politics Tonight, where he reflected on the internal divisions that have affected the PDP since the 2023 general elections.

The former governor claimed that he abandoned what remained of the PDP structure in Ekiti after Makinde allegedly took over the party’s machinery and handed it to individuals he did not identify.

“Makinde took the whole structure of PDP from me and gave it to some characters that I don’t want to talk about, so I left the carcass of the party for him,” Fayose said.

Fayose also attributed part of the PDP’s prolonged crisis to what he described as the “inordinate ambition” of some political leaders.

According to him, excessive political ambition has contributed significantly to divisions within the opposition party and among its prominent members.

“It’s very obvious that when you have inordinate ambition, you will have problems,” he said.

The former governor also recalled a conversation he allegedly had with Makinde over reports that the Oyo State governor was considering a presidential bid.

Fayose said he became aware of a campaign flyer promoting Makinde for president and forwarded it to the governor.

According to Fayose, Makinde subsequently contacted him and dismissed those promoting the presidential ambition as individuals seeking financial benefits.

Fayose claimed that Makinde told him he would personally announce his intention if he ever decided to contest the presidency and would not allow himself to be used against President Bola Tinubu.

“He said that if he wanted to contest, he would say it himself and he would not be the Yoruba man who would be used against another Yoruba man like Asiwaju. God is my witness, and let him deny it,” Fayose said.

Fayose further revisited the role of the PDP’s G-5 governors in the 2023 presidential election, when the group opposed the party’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar.
